Have you ever wondered why some people seem to handle life’s challenges and failures with grace and perseverance while others find themselves devastated by even the smallest of setbacks? And more importantly, what sets these two types of people apart?
I have two words for you: growth mindset.
What is a growth mindset? And how do I get one?
The foundation of a growth mindset is the belief that you can grow, improve, and overcome. Or, as researcher and behavior analyst, Dr. Carol Dweck, says, a growth mindset is the belief in “the power of yet.”
You see, the brain is an incredibly resilient and complex organ, and at a young age, our experiences begin to shape our perceptions of learning and intelligence and what it takes to grow stronger and smarter. Those with a fixed mindset tend to look at life through a “you either have it or you don’t” perspective, while those with a growth mindset believe that hard work and consistent effort will inevitably lead to the achievement of their goals.
You can read more about the transformational thinking behind the concept of adopting a growth mindset in this Harvard Business Review article written by Carol Dweck, but what I want you and I to focus on today are 15 growth mindset quotes that will inspire you to shift your perspective from a place of fear and scarcity to a place of revolving abundance.
Growth Mindset Quotes to Inspire a Healthy Perspective
1.) “It’s not that I’m so smart. It’s just that I stay with the problems longer.” - Albert Einstein
Having a growth mindset means focusing on the process, not the person. That means believing that knowledge, traits, and competencies can be learned and mastered, regardless of your initial skill level or where your story begins.
2.) “Circumstances do not make the man or woman, they merely reveal them.” - Brian Tracy
Our circumstances impact our thoughts. Our thoughts impact our feelings. Our feelings impact our actions. And our actions impact our results. The power in adopting a growth mindset lies in the reassuring truth that even when we can’t control our circumstances, we can control the way we react to them.
3.) “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” - Lao Tzu
When you are overwhelmed by your circumstances, just make the next right move. Every step forward moves you closer to your destination. Celebrate small victories and find joy in the journey.
4.) "Anything worth doing well is worth doing poorly at first." - Ray Congdon
If success were instant or easy, everyone would have it, and it would be meaningless. The struggles and failures we experience in life’s valleys are what make the mountaintop views so rewarding.
5.) “Education without application is just entertainment.” - Tim Sanders
We could spend our entire lives consuming information about how to be a better person, master a certain skill, or achieve a certain status. But if we fail to put our education and the wisdom passed on by others into practice, we will never achieve our true purpose or reach our goals. Actions = Results.
6.) “The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” - Henry Ford
Having a growth mindset means approaching each new or repeated learning opportunity with the intent to leave it better than we came. This means being willing to try as many times as it takes to get it right, always applying the lessons we learned from the time before.
7.) “It’s not how far you fall, but how high you bounce that counts.” - Zig Ziglar
Everyone’s rock bottom looks different. When we fall from grace, success, or happiness into a place of hurt, desperation, or desolation, we can either wallow in our pity and become a victim of our circumstances, or we can rise above the adversity and muster the courage to emerge stronger than we were before. You can bounce back, and you will.
8.) “There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.” -Ronald Reagan
Your identity is not found in the labels placed on you by society. Your success is not defined by your past, nor your present situation. You are capable of so many wonderful things. Dare to dream, and then do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true. Your life is waiting for you.
9.) "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." - Margaret Thatcher
Life is hard. It always has been, and it always will be. So, when our circumstances knock us down or we face the frustrations of not being “enough,” we must try, try, and try again. Pick your battles wisely and face them with the perseverance it takes to get the victory. You’ll be glad you did.
10.) “There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” – Aristotle
We can’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and it is simply not sustainable to try to be. What we can do is allow ourselves to be vulnerable. Be someone you are proud of and whose light shines to inspire others to shine theirs. Everything else will fall into place.
11.) "Becoming is better than being." - Carol Dweck
It’s easy to become so consumed with fulfilling our current roles and responsibilities that we lose sight of the person we hope to become. The thought of making a change seems exhausting and even irresponsible. But change is the only way to experience true growth – to “become.” So, remember to make time for you. Make sure you make a change today that will put you closer to your dreams than you were yesterday.
12.) “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” - Thomas Edison
More times than not, “the darkest hour is just before dawn.” Success, joy, and relief may be just around the corner. And no matter how many times you have tried and failed, getting to where you want to be is going to be just as sweet. So, try one more time, one more time.
13.) “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” - Winston Churchill

14.) “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” – John Quincy Adams
Great things take time, but when your dreams become your reality, you will suddenly realize every obstacle was merely a necessary step in achieving your life’s purpose. And it will be so worth it.
15.) “The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it.” – Kalpana Chawla
Where there is a will, there is a way. It may not be the easy way or the path you had planned, but whatever your goal, ideal, or dream, it is possible. So, search your soul, shed your fears, share your passion, and secure your future.
Be mindful of your mindset. Dare to grow. And whatever it takes, make it happen.
